AFP Commends Senate, Sen. Onder For Defending Free Speech

JEFFERSON CITY – Americans for Prosperity-Missouri today applauded the efforts of Sen. Bob Onder and his allies for staging a successful filibuster against the inclusion of a harmful amendment introduced by Sen. Rob Schaaf to SB 305, a lobbying reform bill. The amendment would force non-profits to report their supporters to the government and also give broad authority to the Missouri Ethics Commission, threatening free speech in Missouri.

State Director Jeremy Cady issued the following statement:

“We commend Sen. Onder and his allies for taking a strong stand for free speech in Missouri. All Missourians should be able to support causes without the fear of retaliation by government officials. We hope the tabling of the Schaaf amendment will convince the Senate to stop wasting time on this anti-free speech effort. They should focus instead on issues Missourians need addressed.”

Americans For Prosperity Condemns McCaskill’s Vote Against Judge Gorsuch, Praise Sen. Blunt

JEFFERSON CITY – Americans for Prosperity-Missouri is disappointed in Sen. McCaskill’s NO vote to confirm Judge Gorsuch. Last week, Sen. McCaskill warned a group of donors to pitfalls of blocking Judge Gorsuch and proclaimed, “Gorsuch was one of the better ones.” On Thursday, Sen. McCaskill voted against cloture that would allow an up or down vote on the nominee. Meanwhile, AFP-MO thanks Sen. Roy Blunt for voting to confirm Judge Gorsuch.

Judge Gorsuch was confirmed in a bipartisan vote, 54-45.

State Director Jeremy Cady issued the following statement:

“Only last week did Sen. McCaskill admit Judge Gorsuch ‘was one of the better ones.’ Yet, when asked her decision, Sen. McCaskill opted to play political games and side with the Washington establishment instead of listening to her constituents. We plan to hold Sen. McCaskill accountable for her decision to engage in political theater and utilize our grassroots force in Missouri to educate voters on her misguided decision to block and oppose the confirmation of Judge Gorsuch.

“Americans for Prosperity thanks Sen. Blunt for his support and vote to confirm Judge Gorsuch. We believe Judge Gorsuch will be a great addition to the Court.”

Americans For Prosperity Condemns Senator McCaskill’s Decision To Oppose Judge Gorsuch

JEFFERSON CITY – Americans for Prosperity-Missouri strongly condemns Senator Claire McCaskill’s decision to filibuster and oppose Judge Gorsuch to the Supreme Court of the United States. Recently, the Kansas City Star reported that Sen. McCaskill was inclined to support Judge Gorsuchs nomination. However just days later, Sen. McCaskill announced she will not support his confirmation and will participate in the unprecedented Democrat filibuster.

State Director Jeremy Cady issued the following statement:

“It is utterly disappointing Senator McCaskill is playing politics with the Nation’s highest court. Missourians made their voice heard in November and clearly stated they supported nominating a Supreme Court justice that would not legislate from the bench. Her rationale why she opposes Judge Gorsuch simply shows she is out of touch with Missouri.

“Judge Gorsuch’s record speaks to his commitment to the rule of law. It’s hypocritical for Democratic Senators to confirm Judge Gorsuch to the U.S. 10th Circuit in an overwhelmingly bipartisan fashion only to turn around and filibuster his Supreme Court nomination ten years later. I hope Senator McCaskill will reconsider her position and do what’s right for Missourians and the United States of America.”
