Picking up a gallon of milk on your way home today?
Ready to be a pawn in a collusion of government and corporate interests?
Starting today government will siphon a part of the sales tax collected on dairy goods. Will government fix roads or educate our children with this money? No.
Instead, government will be lining the pockets of corporations with your tax dollars.
Last session the legislature passed the Missouri Dairy Revitalization Act of 2015. Sales taxes collected under this bill will subsidize the insurance premiums of private companies.
As bad as this may sound, it gets worse.
The sponsor, also a dairy farm owner, has already called for increased funding of the program, a program that is less than a day old. Two weeks ago the sponsor told KSNF, “he will continue to work with legislators to try and get more funding to support the bill once the session begins in Jefferson City.”
Are we to further burden the people of Missouri by increasing funding on an untested program?
Taking your hard earned money to subsidize a private company is wrong. To increase that subsidy, on a whim, is worse than wrong.
